Lesson Plan #: Creative Response
The artwork displayed has a great visual appeal and concept. Each door tells its own story, that’s why it was so easy for the audience to connect. One door caught my attention in particular. Its main focus was self image and body image. As a dancer, you’re supposed to be thin, tall and lean. I’m neither of those attributes. My whole family is over weight and Italian, I guess you can say we love getting together and sharing a meal. It’s very difficult to see other girls at the studio who don’t look like me. Today in this country, girls of all ages suffer from eating disorders and the pressure to be thin. I admire the artist in so many ways. He takes real world issues and expressed the two major sides, without telling you his true opinion. With that it allows you as individual to find your own perception of the topic and gather thoughts.
