Lesson # 1 Theatre Fundamentals/Focusing on Romeo and Juliet

Cape Henlopen High School  Lewes, DE

This lady comes here every day, I think, as I clean my feathers. I wonder what she is drawing today. Whenever she comes here she looks sad, but when she draws she looks happier. I ruffle my dark purple feathers. The harbingers of death, that’s what they call my people. This one guy even wrote about my great-great-great grandma! How cool is that? My family is famous! I wonder what she is drawing today. Yesterday, it was the elm across from her. I think I’ll go see! I swoop down from my perch on a willow branch and squawk with surprise- she was drawing me! It looks like she had taken a while, maybe two or three days. Now that I think about it, she always came around when I was cleaning my feathers! Oh wait, she was saying something. I turn my head to hear her better. “You are quite a beautiful bird.” she sighs. “I wish I never had to go home. I hate it there.” I wish I could respond, tell her I feel the same way. My family is so strict. I hate that even though I love them. “Good bye little bird!” She gathers her things and moves to the edge of the park. “See you tomorrow, little bird.”
